Celtics Dominate Mavericks in Game 1 of 2024 NBA Finals

Porzingis Shines in Return

Game 1 Recap: Celtics 107, Mavericks 93

The Boston Celtics took an early lead in the 2024 NBA Finals, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 107-93 in Game 1 on Friday, June 7th. Kristaps Porzingis, who missed the previous two games with an injury, returned to action for the Mavericks and made an immediate impact, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. However, it was the Celtics who controlled the game from start to finish, thanks to a balanced scoring attack and strong defense. Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 25 points, while Jaylen Brown added 21 points and Al Horford contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds. For the Mavericks, Luka Dončić struggled to find his rhythm, finishing with just 20 points on 6-of-18 shooting.

Game 1 Highlights

The Celtics jumped out to a 12-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back. They extended their lead to 20 points in the second quarter and held a 60-41 advantage at halftime. The Mavericks made a run in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 14 points, but the Celtics quickly regained control and cruised to victory.

Porzingis was a bright spot for the Mavericks in his return. He made his presence felt in the paint and also hit a few key three-pointers. Dončić, however, had a tough shooting night and was harassed by the Celtics' defense all game long.

The Celtics' victory gives them a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 2 will be played in Boston on Sunday, June 9th.
