CDK Dealer Management Software Hit By Cyber Attack

Auto Dealers Struggle With Manual Paperwork

CDK, a leading provider of software to auto dealers, has been hit by a cyber attack that has taken its software offline. The outage has forced dealers to revert to manual paperwork, which is slowing down sales and service.

The attack began on June 16, and CDK has been working to restore its systems ever since. The company said in a statement that it has made progress, but that it could take several more days for its software to be fully operational.

CDK provides services to more than 15,000 retail locations. Its dealer management systems store customer records and automate much of the sales and service process. The outage has caused major disruptions for dealers, who are having to manually enter data and process transactions.

The attack on CDK is just one of a number of recent cyber attacks on businesses. In May, the Colonial Pipeline was shut down by a ransomware attack. And in March, the Microsoft Exchange email server was hacked by a Chinese government-backed group.

The FBI has warned that businesses of all sizes are at risk of cyber attacks. The agency recommends that businesses take steps to protect themselves, such as installing antivirus software, using strong passwords, and backing up their data.
