18 667 National team players
30 of the 55 African countries have failed to meet FIFA's target
18 667 National team players have benefited from FIFA’s COVID-19 Relief Plan, which provided US$1.5 million to each of FIFA’s 211 member associations to protect football at all levels during the Covid-19 pandemic
With 30 of the continent’s 55 countries successfully benefitting from the scheme, Africa performed marginally better than the global average of 36 per cent. However, four out of the six confederations outperformed Africa in the implementation of the FIFA Covid-19 Relief Plan: Asia (45 per cent), Europe (53 per cent), North and Central America and the Caribbean (63 per cent) and South America (69 per cent). Oceania was the only confederation to perform worse than Africa, with 29 per cent of its members – or two out of seven – benefitting from the FIFA Covid-19 Relief Plan.
In total, 76 member associations out of the 211 FIFA member associations benefited from the scheme and almost US$40 million was distributed to African member associations.
