IPCC Agrees on Scientific Reports for Seventh Assessment Cycle

IPCC to Deliver Comprehensive Assessments on Climate Change

ISTANBUL, Turkey (January 20, 2023)

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has finalized plans for the scientific reports that will comprise the seventh assessment cycle. Over 300 delegates from 120 governments convened to determine the scope and structure of the IPCC's upcoming scientific assessments.

The IPCC's assessment reports provide comprehensive and authoritative evaluations of the latest scientific understanding of climate change, including its causes, potential impacts, and response options. The seventh assessment cycle will build upon the findings of the IPCC's sixth assessment cycle, which concluded in 2023.

The three Working Group reports of the seventh assessment cycle will assess the physical science basis of climate change, its impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability, and measures to mitigate climate change. The cycle will also include a Synthesis Report that integrates the findings of the three Working Group reports.

The IPCC emphasizes the importance of these scientific assessments in informing policymakers and the public about the latest climate change science. The reports provide a valuable resource for decision-making and action to address the urgent challenges posed by climate change.

The IPCC is confident that the seventh assessment cycle will deliver a comprehensive and rigorous scientific assessment of climate change, contributing to enhanced understanding and action on this critical issue.
